Destination Freedom by Marginal Boundaries

The Power of Change

Posted by | Destination Freedom, Live Like a Local, Passive Income, Quality of Life, Social Media, Traveling Tips | 4 Comments

Independent success is related to one factor above anything else: conscious decision. People choose whether or not they succeed in life. People choose whether or not to pursue a life of full-time travel, whether or not to explore the world around them from a debt-free standpoint, and whether or not they want to work for someone else as a wage slave as opposed to an independent entity. People choose whether or not to live a life plugged into The Matrix.

The basis of our Destination Freedom retreat was to take a small team of individuals through an intense brand building, social media, blogging and Spanish language immersion program and help them build their businesses up to the point where they could either establish a life of location independence in another country, travel full time, or simply beef up their existing monthly draw with passive income from an online brand.

We are just now finishing up the third week of the program, and our retreat members are already beginning to see the first fruits of their labor after getting their websites up and going and starting to dip their toes into the travel lifestyle here in Cancun, Mexico while at the same time learning some of the basics of social media. The really good stuff is still coming down the pipeline in April and May (we still have two months to go!), and we are taking off this Friday to indulge in a week-long team-building tour courtesy of Snail Adventures here in the Yucatan Peninsula.

In the meantime, I thought it was time to introduce you to the team on a more formal basis and give you a chance to take a look at their websites, and hear some of the success stories from their first few weeks here in Cancun working alongside Cris and I.

Nomadic Retiree

Dave is a pensioner who came down to Mexico looking for a way to build up an additional income to help give him something more of a livable flow of money in compared to the minimal amount he pulls in from his pension. Dave could be considered the poster child for what we are doing with Destination Freedom, as he had previous not worked in an online capacity in the past and had only dabbled in social media for friends and family.

His brand and persona is Nomadic Retiree, a website and blog dedicated to immersion travel and pursuing a nomadic lifestyle while as a retiree, proving that you don’t have to be a spring chicken in order to enjoy the benefits of full-time travel and location independence. He is providing insight into the nomadic lifestyle from the perspective of a pensioner, and alongside that is building up his social media management skills with the intent to both manage social media pages for clients as well as to establish a rental agency in The Riviera Maya helping find rental properties for long-term expats and retirees like himself.

He’s already lined up his first client through Marginal Boundaries (I receive rental queries on a regular basis and I’m shuffling those requests through Dave), and as he continues to master the Spanish language he’ll be working with more landlords and property owners here in Cancun and The Riviera Maya to find properties for other retirees and pensioners  as well as adventurers, who are looking to come down here and live. If you are thinking of spending more than a few weeks here in the area and want to find a local apartment, house or condo with local rates (not tourist, vacation rates), this is the guy to go to, since he’ll be lining up rental properties for others with local landlords in Spanish.

Absolutely Pure

Sophie decided to come to the Destination Freedom retreat to help boost her existing sales and leverage social media with her existing brand, Absolutely Pure. A website dedicated to all-natural beauty and health products, Sophie’s passion is in providing absolutely pure skincare and cosmetic products to a global pool of clients. She has 10 years of experience with her website, but she wanted to learn more about social media as well as get some Spanish language under her belt to move further into the Latin American market with her products.

Along with showing people the danger of “the nasties”, all of those chemical additives that many of the so-called “natural” skincare companies are using in their products, Sophie carries her own line of specially-designed products, such as shampoos and face creams, and is currently working on creating even more of her own unique line of products. If you are someone who values your health and are conscious of the things you put into your body as well as on your skin, you should absolutely give her site a look and pick up some of her products.

In her first few weeks here at the program, Sophie has seen some record-breaking social media numbers at her Facebook page (which we’ve been sharing in screenshots), and we haven’t even started to get into the really interesting stuff over at Google+ or with the other social media pages yet!

Nomadic Momma

A single mother of two, Jen came down to Cancun to attend the retreat with the specific intent of providing her children with a better life. Trying to work two jobs to make ends meet back in the States wasn’t giving her enough income to provide her children with the life she wanted, so she made a conscious choice to go beyond simply applying for another job and “hoping” that she would find something with a better rate of pay. Instead, she took the plunge into the deep end: unplugging from The System and starting her own online business and brand.

Nomadic Momma is the end result. It’s a travel blog dedicated to her exploration of The Riviera Maya (and beyond), while at the same time providing her with an online platform to promote her virtual assistant skills and bring in clients as well as eventually establish a passive income through a book she is currently working on writing. Marginal Boundaries readers are already familiar with Jen as she is the guest author of 10 Ways to Save $25,000 or More for Full-Time Travel as well as  14 Influential Bloggers for Life Hacking.

Her research and personal assistant skills are impeccable, and she has already begun to see success with her blog and we are only three weeks into our three-month-long retreat. Not only has she been doing personal assistant work for me as a guest blogger, but she’s also lined up half a dozen of her own clients working on some basic WordPress design work, transcriptions for a couple of Indian clients, and another website design partnership to help put together WordPress sites.

Consciousness By Design

The most powerful aspect of what the retreat members are doing is using the power of consciousness to create their own realities. Whether it’s a life of full-time travel, location independence as immersion travel expats, or simply beefing up an existing salary with a passive income stream to provide their family with a better life, this is the power of social media, freedom of information, the Internet and the amazing times we are living in.

These are three individuals who have made a conscious decision to break out of the mold, to establish their own independence, their own creative and financial freedom, and to live life the way they want to live, rather than by according to the “rules of society”. When you can leverage the power of globalization, secondary languages and the Internet for your own independence, there is absolutely no need to waste money on a worthless degree or spend 40+ years of your life working as a wage slave for someone else’s benefit.

There’s a great big world out there to explore, and these three people have made the decision to see it first-hand with their own eyes.

Destination Freedom is a three-month-long social media, brand building, blogging, passive income and Spanish language immersion program offered by Marginal Boundaries at their headquarters in Cancun, Mexico. The course is designed by T.W. Anderson and Cristina Barrios, and is a combination of information found within The Expat Guidebook and the forthcoming book, Beyond Boundaries – The Social Revolution.

Registration is now open for the Summer retreat (July, August and September of 2013) with limited positions available, and the Winter retreat takes place in November, December and January.

For more information on the Spring 2013 retreat, and to see what the members are experiencing while here in Cancun, check out our Facebook and Google+ photo albums, as well as follow along at the YouTube channel.
