Travel Unlocks Your Destiny – Achieving Your Soul

One cannot reach enlightenment trapped behind the walls of a suburban prison, locked in a cell of towering structures and constant 40-hour work week grinds and wage slavery and complete eradication of independent thought and creativity. One can only achieve their true destiny, unlock the potential of their very soul, their essence of being, through absolute freedom and the ability to travel anywhere in the world and soak in experiences as a sponge soaking water.

Without your soul, you are nothing. A fleeting glimpse of potential, a half-muttered thought, dancing on the wisp of possibility. Perfect for a life of servitude, but nothing more. A serf, a land-locked servant, clothed and shaved and civilized, chained to his plot of land by debt and service to his patron, his country. Destined to live a life of middle-class oblivion as personality is erased by state responsibility as a result of the accidental location of your birth.

Reaching For The Stars

Owning your soul opens the doorway to The Universe. It is Destiny. It is taking your passion, your dreams, your core essence, and running with it until you achieve greatness. But it takes hard work to get to that point. Focus. Dedication. A Free Man or Woman is burdened only by his knowledge, and with great freedom comes great responsibility, but of a different kind: advancement of one’s self.

But there is only one way to advance oneself, and that is through continual pursuit of knowledge. Which in turn is gained from experience, something that is impossible to achieve if you are living a life of servitude in suburbia. Only through freedom and exploration do you experience life to its fullest, and only then can you truly achieve your self’s goals.

Scientists the world over agree on one single fact: we are nothing more than stardust, the universe experiencing itself as a physical manifestation here on Planet Earth. And how does one gain experience? By exploring the vastness of the universe. And how does one explore the vastness of the universe? By getting out there and seeing, doing, exploring, learning, continually reaching for the stars and what lies beyond.

Sitting behind a desk, clocking hours and grinding down the clock, is not experiencing. It is not exploring. It is not reaching for the stars. It is drudgery, a way to keep you controlled so that someone else behind the mask of government or religion can keep you from your creative self. A life of suburbia, working your 50 weeks a year with your two week vacations, is not a lifestyle conducive to learning, to creativity, to exploration and achievement of your true Destiny. It is a trap, a way of keeping you to heel, chained to the stump, nothing more than a worker ant slaving away for the queen.

We are so much more than a collection of hours, of minutes, of seconds. We are infinitely capable, but only if we push ourselves to continually learn, to continually explore, to always find the next experience to shape us, define us, make us into the person we are destined to become. Experiences are what make us creatively attuned, and without those experiences we are dead.

Becoming Yourself

Alarm clock ringing at 5:30 a.m. Shower. Coffee to wake up. Breakfast. Help the wife/husband get the kids ready for school. Get the kids on the bus. Commute to work in traffic, carpool or via public transportation. Grind out your 8 to 10 hour shift. Two 15 minute breaks; one in the morning, one in the afternoon. A single 30 minute lunch break. Commute back to the house. Shower. Help spouse with dinner. Help kids with homework. Check clock. Time to read? Not really. Try to catch 30 minutes of a book or show before you fall asleep in bed.

Rinse. Repeat. Every. Single. Fucking. Day. If you are lucky, you get Saturday and Sunday off. If you are unlucky, you work two or three jobs to try and make ends meet, to pay the bills, to put food on the table for the kids, to pay off those school loans and the mortgage and the car payments and the credit cards.

At no point do you actually have time to explore or experience the world around you. To learn. To embrace your unique nature as a universal, enlightened soul. To meditate on your potential. To discover.

The road to discovery is fraught with experiences. An endless series of days of carpooling spread out over 40 years teaches you nothing other than how to be a slave to someone else’s demands. A mere year of traveling, on the other hand, gives you a myriad of experiences you can delve into for self awareness and advancement. A lifetime of traveling…that, my friends, is where the magic really happens.

Three months in Mexico living and working alongside the maize farmers of Chiapas. Two months on a cattle farm in Argentina. Three weeks of backpacking through Patagonia. Two years living in China. Four months spent exploring the coast of Turkey. Two months in Italy. Meeting a man who tends olive trees that date back 4,000 years. Drinking wine from vines that have been growing on the Thracian Plains of Bulgaria for the past 6,000 years. Conversing with people from fifteen different religions in just as many days and learning with equal levels of respect from each of them. Looking back through human history and unlocking the secrets to our future through an understanding of our past mistakes; religious, political and beyond.

Find what you are passionate about and pursue that with all of your energy. Passion is the key to unlocking your Destiny, of finding your soul, your self. People who pursue their passions always achieve greatness, because they are pursuing their lifelong dreams. They are following the path laid out for them by the universe. Doing exactly what it is that they were meant to do, were born to do.

Thus boredom and lack of creativity or lack of motivation never get in the way. There’s no drudgery or tedium because every single day they are following their soul’s path to enlightenment, continually refining and working on honing their self until eventually they reach the Master Level where they have become one with the universe.

These are experiences that lead to becoming one’s self. Of achieving your true Destiny. Of unlocking your soul. And they can only be obtained by putting yourself in the thick of it. By going above and beyond. By daring to dream, and dreaming to conquer.

Spread Your Wings and Fly

Destiny is the arrival of your self. The act of Becoming. Transitioning into the universal entity you were always meant to be. You can only arrive there after careful study, after learning from your experiences, from analyzing the paths around you, from taking all of the data coming in, sifting through it, gleaning the important bits and discarding the extraneous. Moving forward through enlightenment as a result of study and debate.

Working the same dead-end job for 50 years leads to nothing but death and misery. You will fade into the history books as nothing more than cannon fodder. Lost. Forgotten. Irrelevant.

Travel, on the other hand, gives you the opportunity to explore the entire planet that we have been blessed enough to call home. Explore other cultures. Learn from masters in various religions, in various societies. See for yourself all the elements and extremes that humanity is capable of, live and in the flesh, uncensored by state-run media.

Learn another language. Two, three four, six, eight. Live in other countries. Learn to appreciate another culture’s point of view. Go native. Treat Planet Earth as your home, not a single dot on a map. Immerse yourself in the richness and diversity of the entire planet. Celebrate festivals that you’ve never heard of. Eat food you’ve never tasted. Drink beverages you’ve never quaffed before. Read and study history and religious texts in various languages to grasp the entire picture as told from many unique points of views, enabling you to see the kernels of truth that lie in each, and strip away the irrelevant through your wisdom.

We are sensory preceptors brought forth into physical manifestation. Our role on Earth is to soak up all of those experiences like a sponge and use them to better ourselves. To learn. To overcome. To adapt. To evolve. To achieve that next level of human evolution. To understand the cosmos. To understand reality, the universe around us.

If you lock a person in the dark for their entire life, they have no concept of light. No concept of color. They are ignorant, and blissfully so; to them, the entire world is darkness and shadows and sensory deprivation. But because they don’t know any better they are content.

But to those who have seen the light, the darkness is a starting point. It’s a reference to how far they’ve come, and how far they still have to go. The path to Enlightenment, to achieving the soul, to arriving where Destiny meant for you to be all along, all though opening your heart, mind and soul and drinking it in like a sponge as opposed to repelling anything “strange” or “different” or “foreign”.

  • Cheers, Marty…thanks for dropping by and for your comment.

As to the F-bomb within, well…I’m a writer of the English language, and I use the language to its fullest intent. I certainly hope you share it with your friends/family, and hope that they can reach the level of enlightenment that allows for reading of any words in any language without feeling offended.

Your post appeared on my FB page…this is ME…love your commentary…speaks my mind ! (only wish you’d edit out the “F-word” so I can pass the page along to more conservative members of my family…and friends). Thanks.

  • Absolutely, on all points, David. The only way people can develop the cultural understanding to appreciate other points of view, and thus adapt to them and absorb them for greater interaction with humanity as a whole, is by exploring and experiencing the world beyond suburbia.

    Thanks for dropping by!

  • Great post!
A lot of food for thought.

People have different passions. For some it may be raising children or being the anchor of an organization.
But I agree that just about anyone will benefit from spending at least one chapter of their life living something different in a different culture.

It is a fact that people who learn to embrace more than one culture (accepting multiple cultures as legitimate) develops greater creativity and a more sophisticated way of thinking. (Not to mention humility, tolerance, and wonder.)

Oh Tim, you summarized exactly what I think and some of the reasons why me and Dale decided to sell everything we owned, quit our jobs and travel as much as we can! What you are saying here is very inspiring and encouraging for us and for who still has to find the courage to follow their dreams by sacrifice a more ‘secure’ and ‘conventional’ lifestyle.
    Great post! :)

  • Heck yeah, Freya :)

  • I agree wholeheartedly with this statement: “The road to discovery is fraught with experiences.” That’s why most of us travel, I guess.

  • After reading this I really feel ready to spread my wings and FLY. Thanks for the inspiration.
