Be Grateful For Your Freedom

Nesebar, Bulgaria

One of the benefits of the expat lifestyle is the ability to go and live anywhere provided you have enough funds to do so. Unfortunately, not everyone has that ability…at least, those who have trusted in a singular government don’t have that ability. For some, it is all they can do to put together two coins to pay for a piece of bread to share with their family, and it is these stories that can be both an inspiration for the power of love and family as well as a reminder of just how fickle government can be and why it is important to take control of your life with your own two hands and forge your own destiny to avoid destitution.

You can look around the globe right now and see millions of examples of people living in poverty or worse…all because they put their faith in a government that didn’t live up to its end of the bargain. From the tent cities and food stamp programs of the United States to the endless riots in the streets of Athens as the people of Greece struggle to find their way to the unemployment rates of Spain as they currently consider their Schengen status and more as millions of Spaniards flee the country for Brazil, Chile and other countries…there are endless examples all around the world of governments gone wrong, unable to provide for their people in the manner that they promised.

It is a reminder of how grateful you should be to have the freedom, the flexibility and the income to go where you want, when you want and live how you want. It is the absolute freedom of the expat lifestyle, and as long as you play your cards right you can avoid the issues plaguing the vast majority of sheep who have followed their governments into the slaughterhouses. This is the reason those of us in this industry rigorously preach the importance of secondary passports, foreign bank accounts and international citizenship. It is the reason why we say, “don’t put your faith in a government; forge your own path”. It is the reason we tell people to only trust themselves.

I see photos like these and I am reminded once again how blessed we are to be able to live a life of absolute freedom without any binding ties to a singular government to trap us in the horror of living under the boot heel. These are the stories no one should ever have to see, much less live through. These are the nightmares that we avoid by being global citizens rather than relying on a singular government to “magically” make things better.

The reality is that no government will ever provide a perfect solution. History has shown time and again the rise and fall of empires and it is always the same. It doesn’t matter if you come from the United States, Canada, Greece, Italy, France, Egypt, Mexico, Germany…the only way you can realize your true potential as a human being is to dominate the entire globe, to call the whole planet your home, to erase the lines drawn on a map and go where you want, when you want and do what you want with your money and time.

No reliance on banks and failing governments. Instead, you should be putting your money in gold and silver and commodities like agriculture, and the beauty of living as a digital nomad is that you can choose to invest in these things in countries where the economies are booming and the people are thriving, like Chile, Brazil, Singapore and beyond. You have the potential to escape the burning building, the sinking ship…but only if you take charge of your life right now and do what is necessary to become an independent person living life on Earth as you should have been all along: absolutely free.

Don’t let yourself become one of the starving statistics. If you haven’t already taken the plunge today, you should be taking steps right now to ensure your flexibility so that you can be long gone when the fire starts. Earth is your Home. Go where you want, when you want and do what you want. It’s your human right.

  • Well put. Many people who are born with freedoms tend to take them for granted throughout their lives, are not taught how to keep them, and in result lose those hard earned freedoms.

And travel aint what it used to be with more and more of the world in a state of struggle and unrest.
